Cell Types
NIA Aging Cell Repository
The Repository has human cell cultures from
individuals with aging-related conditions. These include disorders of
accelerated aging (e.g., progeria, Werner syndrome, Cockayne syndrome,
Rothmund-Thomson syndrome, and Down syndrome) and cell cultures from
familial Alzheimer disease extended pedigrees. The collection also
includes specially characterized normal human diploid fibroblast cultures
(IMR90 and IMR91) and over 500 skin fibroblast cultures from subjects
participating in the NIA-sponsored Gerontology Research Center Baltimore
Longitudinal Study of Aging. In addition, the Aging Cell Repository has
human and animal differentiated cell cultures (epithelial, endothelial, and
smooth muscle), human mammary epithelial and keratinocyte cell cultures,
and fibroblast cultures from animals with different life spans. Menus are
provided to allow users to search for cell cultures in a variety of ways
including Repository number, MIM number, disease description, as well as
sample type and animal species.
ECACC European Collection of Animal Cell Cultures
The European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC) was established in 1984 and accepts cell
lines of diverse origins either for addition to its collections, or as a patent or safe deposit.
Collection deposits are made available worldwide for use by research and industry. Through its expertise in handling cell lines, ECACC is in a unique position to offer services to clients in many areas of cell technology, characterisation and standardisation.
EBI PCR primers database
The PCR primers database is a new database of fully tested and optimized
primers for various applications involving the PCR protocol.
The database focuses on primers used in general purpose - basic research and does not include primers that originated from the various megabase sequencing projects. There is however a future plan to create a special subdivision, suited especially for these projects.
Oligonucleotide Probe Database: OPD
OPD is a hyperlinked database of oligonucleotide sequences and
associated experimental information which may be useful to scientists
interested in using oligonucleotide probes in their research.
OPD contains data for: (1) probe design, (2) probe characterization studies (temperature of dissociation studies using membrane hybridizations), (3) probe specificity studies, (4) use of probes for in situ hybridizations, (5) use of primers for PCR, and (6) specificity of PCR primers.
The Antibody Resource Page
This is devoted to bringing together the vast number of resources about
antibodies on the net. It includes links to educational websites, links
to on-line companies (more than 30) that sell antibodies and
antibody-related products, links to antibody-related databases, essays
on antibody-related topics, and more.
BacPac Resource Center
This is a World Wide Web site run by the BacPac Resource Center in the
Department of Human Genetics at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in
Buffalo, New York, USA. It contains information on currently available
BAC and PAC genomic DNA libraries; high density colony hybridization
filters, BAC/PAC cloning vectors, laboratory staff info, and pertinent
recent publications.
Human Biological Data Interchange (HBDI)
The Human Biological Data Interchange (HBDI), is program of the
non-profit National Disease Research Interchange.
National Disease Research Interchange (NDRI)
The National Disease Research Interchange (NDRI) is a unique nonprofit
organization engaged in the procurement and distribution of human
tissues and organs for biomedical researchers primarily in the USA.
Three programs comprise NDRI, each with objectives relevant to different aspects of scientific research. They are, as follows:
The Human Tissues and Organs for Research (HTOR) program focuses on the retrieval and distribution of tissues and organs from autopsy and surgical procedures, as well as specimens obtained from eye and tissue banks. Examples include whole and partial organs, such as, heart, kidney, lung, brain, liver, eyes, and bones and joints for biomechanical and orthopedic studies.
The Human Biological Data Interchange (HBDI) is NDRI's model for the development of genetically valuable family collections for use in the advancement and study of the genetic basis for disease. It was developed as a resource to provide to diabetes researchers, family and medical history information, immortalized cell lines and DNA from families with Type I diabetes. The HBDI repository currently holds biomaterials from over 500 families; the HBDI database contains family and medical history data on over 6,500 families with diabetes. Researchers may request a catalog of these families in the repository and access confidentiality coded information from these family and medical histories.
Odyssey One was established to respond to the new and emerging needs of researchers in innovative areas related to the use of human materials in research. Among these areas are the use of islet cells for pancreatic transplant research, malignant tumors and normal adjacent tissue for cancer research, and bone marrow stem cells for a wide variety of research applications.
List of Bacterial Names with Standing in Nomenclature
The List of Bacterial Names with Standing in Nomenclature includes,
alphabetically and chronologically, the official nomenclature of
bacteria and the nomenclatural changes as cited in the Approved Lists of
Bacterial Names, or published, or validated in the International Journal
