The Merck Genome Research Institute
The Merck Genome Research Institute is a not-for-profit organization
established to support the development of scientific technology which
will enable those who become skilled in its use to apply improved
techniques to the linkage of human genetic traits and resolve biological
function of disease genes. Furthermore, the development of methods
which tend to accelerate predictions of gene function independent of
linkage is a high priority. The focus of the Institute is to encourage
and, where appropriate, sponsor projects which enable scientists to
develop assays and methodologies which can be applied broadly across
genomics research with the objective of improving the accuracy and speed
in which functional associations can be made with sequences of genetic
information. A variety of model systems (i.e., bacteria, yeast, mice,
and Drosophila) analytic methods may be employed. High risk, innovative
approaches are particularly sought.
Michigan DNA Sequencing Core
The DNA Sequencing Core provides University of Michigan investigators access to
high-quality automated DNA Sequencing technology on a recharge basis.

Mammalian Genetics Unit
The MRC have recently established the new Mammalian Genetics Unit
at the Harwell site. The new Unit comprises an integrated campus
for mouse genetics research with excellent facilities for molecular
genetics, genomics, animal breeding, mutagenesis and transgenesis.
The Unit uses a wide range of approaches to investigate mouse
models of human genetic disease as well as a variety of fundamental
biological phenomena and their relevance to clinical medicine. As
part of the facilities on site, the Unit holds one of the largest
mouse genetic banks within Europe.
Mouse Genome Centre
The MRC have established the UK Mouse Genome Centre on the Harwell site.
The Centre became operational in January 1996. The Centre's remit is
the genetic and physical mapping and sequencing of the mouse genome
accompanied by programmes for applying mouse genome resources for the
positional cloning of mouse mutations, particularly those of relevance
to aspects of human genetic disease.
Mouse and Rat Research Home Page
This serves as a central place to find resources of particular interest
to scientific researchers using mice or rats in their work. In addition
to a somewhat exhaustive listing of especially useful internet
resources, you'll also find conference announcements and other
information.
